using the excess heat produced by cloud computing

U.K.-based Green cloud provider Heata has unveiled a new, innovative way to heat water in people’s homes using the excess heat produced by cloud computing.

The company has announced a plan to provide U.K. residents with free hot water provided that they install a Heata server in their homes.

Heata’s cloud computing servers are powered by solar energy, which helps lower CO2 emissions and heating costs.

  • The company is addressing the environmental challenges associated with rapid cloud adoption, specifically the amount of CO2 generated by data centers.
  • The new scheme works by attaching Heata’s cloud computing server to a hot water tank.
  • Heata covers the installation and maintenance costs for the server and reimburses electrical costs by 10%. The company says its scheme is expected to save each household roughly £200 ($237) per year.
