A bald eagle at a bird sanctuary in Missouri has started looking after an orphaned eaglet.
Sanctuary workers put the two birds together after seeing the adult eagle, Murphy, caring for a rock.
- Murphy,
a flightless bald eagle at the World Bird Sanctuary in Valley Park, Mo.
built a nest for a rock and spent days waiting for it to hatch.
- He reportedly became aggressive toward other birds who came near his nest.
- Workers
at the sanctuary didn't have the heart to separate Murphy from the
rock, so they were both moved to a solo bird enclosure.
- An orphaned eaglet was brought to the sanctuary this month after falling from a tree during a storm.
- Murphy began to protect and feed the juvenile bird after the sanctuary decided to place the eaglet in his enclosure.
- Murphy was “doing very well learning how to be a first-time dad,” said World Bird Sanctuary CEO Dawn Griffard.
