A Turkish baby who spent 128 hours under earthquake rubble was reunited with her mother this month.
The baby, named Gizem by rescue workers, was separated from her mother following the devastating earthquake that killed over 50,000 people in Turkey and Syria in late February.
- Gizem was rescued from earthquake rubble when she was only a month and a half old.
- Her mother was believed to have been killed in the earthquake and Gizem was put in state care.
- A
family member approached officials claiming that a woman receiving
medical care in the city of Adana, Yaseming Besdag, was the child's
mother.
- A DNA test confirmed the claim was true and the woman was reunited with her child after 54 days of separation.
- "Uniting
a mother with her child is one of the most precious deeds in the
world," said Turkey's Minister of Family and Social Services, Derya
Yanik, who was present when the baby was given back to her mother.
