A young girl in Denmark found silver coins in a field that date back over 1,000 years.

The find is of particular interest to archeologists because it includes coins from the Arab, Germanic, and Danish worlds.

  • The coins were found in a field in Bramslev, an area close to the Medieval "ring fort" of Fyrkat.
  • The girl who found the hoard gave it to the North Jutland Museum, which compensated her for the discovery.
  • The coins are believed to have been made at the end of the 10th Century and display images of crosses.
  • The crosses indicate the influence of Viking warlord Harald Blåtand (Bluetooth) who started Christianizing Denmark around the time the coins were struck.
