First woman to direct Star Wars

 

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, a Pakistan-born director, will be the first woman and person of color to direct a Star Wars film.   Three new Star Wars movies are planned, with the first set to release in 2025. Obaid-Chinoy will direct a film set 15 years after the last movie, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, with Daisy Ridley returning as the lead. The film will follow Rey's attempt to revive the Jedi order. Obaid-Chinoy said she was "drawn to the hero's journey" in the Star Wars universe. The three films will cover different periods in the Star Wars narrative and have other directors. Obaid-Chinoy has won two Oscars for documentaries denouncing violence against women.   Obaid-Chinoy directed last year’s Ms. Marvel television series, featuring a Muslim superhero.
