A data center fire in Paris, France, caused a Google Cloud outage that affected over 90 Google Cloud services in the "europe-west9-a zone."
The outage began on Apr. 26 at around 4 a.m. CET.
- The
data center caught fire around midnight, and the fire department had to
soak the facility with water to put it out, which resulted in a
multi-cluster failure impacting over 90 Google Cloud services.
- Google Cloud posted information about the outage on its status page,
citing "water intrusion" as the cause of the shutdown of "multiple
zones" and that "the impact is now limited to services in
europe-west9-a."
- Among
the cloud services affected are Vertex AI, Virtual Private Cloud (VPC),
BigQuery Data Transfer Service, Google Cloud Storage, and many others.
It is unclear how many services are still being affected by the
outage.
- Google
Cloud's latest update on the outage states that "there is no ETA for
full recovery of operations in europe-west9-a at this time" and that
another update will be provided on Apr. 28 by 7:00 a.m. PDT.
