Italy has banned ChatGPT due to security and data privacy concerns.
The decision was announced by the country's premier data authority.
- The agency, named Garante per la Protezione dei Dati Personali, has ordered the company to stop processing users' data immediately.
- According to Garante, OpenAI did not inform users that their data was being collected.
- Additionally, the Italian agency claims that there is no legal basis that enables the massive collection and processing of personal data to train OpenAI's algorithms.
- The Garante also stated that the lack of an age verification system could put minors at risk of being exposed to inappropriate content.
- As a response, OpenAI has stated that it is working to reduce personal data in training its AI systems like ChatGPT.
