What the numbers say: The leading cryptocurrency, Bitcoin (BTC), has become the most-searched term on Google in the U.S., with a 1.9 million search volume. Hawaii, Nevada, California, Florida, and Idaho were the states with the largest number of Bitcoin searches, respectively. In the top five of the ranking, Bitcoin was followed by Donald Trump, Breaking News, Elvis Presley, and Disney World. Relevance: Donald Trump’s NFT collection, Trump Digital Trading Cards, also saw an over 450% increase in sales earlier in April. The surge in the volume came right after the former U.S. president appeared in court in New York City with 34 felony criminal charges on April 4. The same two-day period was also reflected in Donald Trump’s Google search volume, causing his name to be searched more than Bitcoin for just two days on April 4 and 5. Brands that should care: Other search engines, including Edge and Yandex, have started realizing the user interest in the crypto industry. In February, Yandex added crypto rates to its currency converter with an update. Tech giant Microsoft also began testing a non-custodial crypto wallet in its web browser, Edge, with a similar move this year. |
