Nike to replace executive vice president

Nigel Powell will step down from his role as Nike's executive vice president and chief communications officer.

Powell is known for having guided Nike through complex political issues.

  • Nike President and CEO John Donahoe praised Powell when announcing his departure.
  • One of Powell's most significant decisions was when he pushed Nike to support American football quarterback and civil rights activist Colin Kaepernick when NFL teams refused to sign him.
  • Powell will be replaced this spring by Nike's vice president of enterprise communications, KeJuan Wilkins.
  • Wilkins previously led the company's worldwide corporate and employee communications.
