AI tool of the week: Runway's new iOS app relies on generative AI to alter the style of videos on iPhones using text and image prompts.
How it works: Users download the RunwayML mobile app, take or select a video of up to 5 seconds long, and use a prompt to stylize the footage as they want. The Verge describes it as a "super-powered style transfer," although rather than applying filters, the app creates entirely new videos, it notes.
Background: Runway's first mobile app uses the company's Gen-1 model , which takes pre-existing videos and edits their structures, such as altering the color of a car in a video. In March, Runway also released its Gen-2 software , which requires only text prompts to create original videos of up to 3 seconds long.
Cost: While free to download, in-app purchases start at $10 for 1,000 generation credits. The monthly and yearly charges are $15 and $144, respectively. Free users also get a limited number of credits to try it out.
