Robert F Kennedy Jr to run for president

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. filed paperwork to run for president

The environmental lawyer hails from one of the most prominent political families in the U.S. and will likely compete with President Joe Biden for the 2024 Democratic nomination.

  • 69-year-old Kennedy is the son of assassinated Senator Robert F. Kennedy and nephew of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy, who was also assassinated.
  • Kennedy is an author and lawyer who once worked on environmental issues such as clean water.
  • Over 15 years ago, he became an outspoken anti-vaccine activist. His views on vaccination have received pushback from public health authorities and members of his own family.
  • Kennedy's anti-vaccine non-profit, Children's Health Defense, saw its revenue double during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • He said his top priority as a candidate would be to “end the corrupt merger between state and corporate power.”

Zoom Out:

  • Former U.S. President Donald Trump said in November that he will seek the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.
  • Biden has said he plans to seek reelection but has yet to formally enter the race.
