Solana Labs, the firm behind the Solana blockchain, said its crypto-focused smartphone, Saga, will go on sale on May 8.
The firm also stated that pre-ordered devices have already started being shipped.
- Saga has a price tag of $1,000, and its hardware was developed by the smartphone manufacturer OSOM.
- The phone comes with a 6.67-inch OLED display, a fingerprint scanner, two versatile back camera lenses, the flagship-level Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 processor, 12 GB RAM, and 512 GB of storage.
- The device will be delivered with the latest version of the Android operating system.
- Unlike other smartphone devices, Saga will have the Solana Mobile Stack (SMS) that allows users to send, receive, trade, and store crypto assets directly on the device securely.
- The firm will protect customer security with what it says is a seed vault that stores users' private keys separately from the rest of the phone's data.
- The crypto-focused phone will also have a custom decentralized app (dApp) store that currently lists only over a dozen crypto apps alongside Android's Google Play Store.
- Saga was first unveiled by Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko at a New York City event in June 2022.
