Spanish extreme athlete Beatriz Flamini emerged from a 500-day stay in a cave near the city of Granada.

The 50-year-old spent her last two birthdays in the cave, without any human contact.

  • Flamini's sojourn in the cave was monitored by a team of psychologists and speleologists studying the impact of extreme isolation on people's perception of time.
  • She said she lost track of time after approximately two months and at times experienced "auditory hallucinations."
  • She entertained herself by drawing, exercising, and knitting hats.
  • Her support team said she read 60 books and consumed 1,000 liters of water.
  • Flamini, who emerged from the cave with a smile, said the experience was "unbeatable."
