Spotify is planning to make some Gimlet podcasts available on other audio platforms, Semafor reports.
The rules of exclusivity can be expected to change in "the coming months."
- Refresher: In 2019, Spotify acquired Gimlet for $230M. This deal meant that Gimlet shows, including "Reply All," "Heavyweight," and "Science Vs." would be exclusive to the Spotify listening platform.
- A spokesperson from Spotify confirmed that this would no longer be the case for select podcasts: "In this case, we're pursuing broad distribution for some of our original podcasts like Science Vs. This will be done on a case-by-case basis and over time."
- As Semafor notes, this move indicates the end of the exclusivity experiment being conducted at Spotify.
