Thousands of Czechs protested in Prague's central square on Sunday, calling the government to quit as they demonstrated against high inflation and energy prices.
The protest, "Czechia against poverty," was organized by the non-parliamentary political party PRO.
PRO has criticized the center-right government of Prime Minister Petr Fiala for its handling of the energy crisis since Russia invaded Ukraine more than a year ago.
- Protesters demanded the government push for peace in the Ukraine war while denying being a pro-Russian party.
- The protest was not estimated in size by police but filled half of Prague's Wenceslas Square.
- Protest organizer and PRO leader Jindrich Rajchl called on the government to resign during the protest.
- Rising inflation and high energy prices are cutting into household budgets, causing burdens to families and firms.
Recent polling showed that support for the five-party government is slipping, with the main opposition party ANO extending its lead over Fiala's party.
