Trial to start in Dominion v. Fox News case

The trial in the lawsuit by Dominion Voting Systems against Fox News starts this week in Delaware, in what stands to be the biggest media case since the 1980s.

Colorado-based Dominion is suing Fox for $1.6B in damages for defamation, accusing the network of spreading false information about the company's voting machines during the 2020 U.S. presidential election.

The trial was expected to start on Monday, but the judge announced on Sunday night that it'd been delayed to Tuesday.

  • Fox News has argued that the First Amendment protected its reporting and that the $1.6B figure "has no connection to Dominion's financial value as a company."
  • The trial is expected to last six weeks and will involve testimonies from Dominion and Fox News employees.
  • The trial outcome could have significant implications for media outlets reporting on elections and voting machines in the future.
  • Multiple fact-checking organizations and the Department of Justice have thoroughly debunked the allegations against Dominion Voting Systems.

The case underscores the importance of accurate and responsible journalism, particularly when reporting on sensitive political issues.
