U.K. soccer player David Brooks returned to the British Premier League after beating cancer.

He is now working with a U.K. charity that raises funds for cancer research.

  • The 25-year-old told a doctor in 2021 that he had difficulty sleeping and was struggling to put on weight.
  • After several blood tests, he received a diagnosis of stage two Hodgkin Lymphoma.
  • "You almost don’t want to believe it. When you hear the word ‘cancer’," said Brooks in an interview published over the weekend.
  • After receiving six months of chemotherapy, Brooks said he was cancer free.
  • He returned to the pitch and now supports Race for Life, a charity that raises money for cancer research through children's events.
  • "To be able to play football again is a real blessing," said Brooks, adding that "I hope people will take part in Race for Life to support the kind of research that helped to get me back on the pitch."
