Adobe is adding a new generative AI tool into Photoshop, allowing users to add, extend, and remove content in images using natural language prompts.
The Generative Fill tool, now in beta testing, will be released to the public in the second half of 2023. It's powered by Firefly, Adobe's new creative generative AI engine.
- Firefly lets users type in descriptive words and phrases to produce the kind of image or object they want to create.
- Once an image is generated or added in Photoshop, Generative Fill allows users to extend that image with AI-created backgrounds or add and remove objects using only text prompts.
- According to Adobe, the tool maintains the original scene's perspective, lighting, and style, enabling significant image alterations with minimal effort.
- Images created or altered with the AI technology will be labeled as such in their content credentials.
- Restrictions will apply, including no commercial use, age limits, and support for English text prompts only.
- Currently, Generative Fill is exclusive to the Photoshop desktop beta app or as a module within the Firefly beta app.
