Amazon uses AI to speed up deliveries

Amazon is using artificial intelligence (AI) to decide where to place inventory.

The technology is part of the company's wider efforts to regionalize its U.S. logistics network.

  • CNBC held an interview on Monday with Stefano Perego, Amazon's vice president of customer fulfillment and global ops services for North America and Europe.
  • Perego told CNBC that Amazon's AI places inventory in locations that "reduce distance to fulfill to customers."
  • Three-quarters of Amazon's U.S. orders now ship to customers from local regions, according to Amazon.
  • The AI's placement decisions also reportedly help to speed up Amazon's deliveries.
