Artificial intelligence, specifically the ChatGPT chatbot, may provide more empathetic responses to patient questions than doctors, according to a study published in JAMA Internal Medicine. Researchers compared written responses to real-world health questions from doctors with those from ChatGPT, using Reddit's AskDocs page as a source. A panel of healthcare professionals evaluated the responses and preferred ChatGPT's responses 79% of the time, considering them higher quality and more empathetic.
While AI is not intended to replace doctors, the study highlights the potential for AI-augmented care in medicine. |
