ChatGPT more empathetic than doctors

Artificial intelligence, specifically the ChatGPT chatbot, may  provide more empathetic  responses to patient questions than doctors, according to a study published in JAMA Internal Medicine.

Researchers compared written responses to real-world health questions from doctors with those from ChatGPT, using Reddit's AskDocs page as a source.

A panel of healthcare professionals evaluated the responses and preferred ChatGPT's responses 79% of the time, considering them higher quality and more empathetic.

  • The researchers believe that AI and doctors should work together, with physicians utilizing AI tools like ChatGPT to improve and provide empathetic care.
  • The study suggests that AI assistants like ChatGPT can efficiently draft personalized medical advice for review by clinicians.

While AI is not intended to replace doctors, the  study  highlights the potential for AI-augmented care in medicine.
