General Motors is recalling 42,000 SUVs in Canada, models 2014 through 2017, over the risk of the driver's airbag inflator exploding during deployment
Last week, GM also recalled 994,763 vehicles in the U.S., including 2014 to 2017 versions of the Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, and GMC Acadia.
- "Air bag inflators that project metal fragments into vehicle occupants, rather than properly inflating the attached airbag, create an unreasonable risk of death and injury," said the NHTSA in its letter to GM.
- On Friday, the NHTSA requested the recall of;67 million ARC inflators produced over a period of 18 years through January 2018.
- ARC inflators are used by GM, BMW, Stellantis, Hyundai, and Kia, among other automakers. The recalled SUVs use ARC inflators.
