Germany's auto industry association wants post-Brexit tariff rules to be reassessed.

The powerful lobby group joins Stellantis in calling for the EU to intervene in a deal that the group says will harm Europe's EV industry.

  • A post-Brexit trade deal imposes tariffs on EVs that are not primarily made in the EU and the U.K.
  • 45% of the value of EVs sold in the EU must come from the U.K. or the EU by 2024 to avoid the tariffs.
  • EV batteries can comprise up to half the cost of a new vehicle, and Europe's battery industry is underdeveloped compared to its Asian competitors.
  • Germany's auto industry association joined Britain and Stellantis in calling for EV tariffs to and from the U.K. to be reconsidered.
