Montana became the first U.S. state to  

ban TikTokThe move comes after TikTok delayed the launch of its shopping platform amid fears of a nationwide ban.

  • Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte signed the legislation on Wednesday.
  • The law bans app providers from granting access to TikTok rather than banning people from using it.
  • TikTok and any app users that provide access to it face penalties of $10,000 per violation.
  • An additional penalty of $10,000 per day could come into effect if the law continues to be violated.
  • The legislation is set to take effect on Jan. 1, 2024.
