Montana became the first U.S. state to   ban TikTok. The move comes after TikTok delayed the launch of its shopping platform amid fears of a nationwide ban. Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte signed the legislation on Wednesday. The law bans app providers from granting access to TikTok rather than banning people from using it. TikTok and any app users that provide access to it face penalties of $10,000 per violation. An additional penalty of $10,000 per day could come into effect if the law continues to be violated. The legislation is set to take effect on Jan. 1, 2024.
