Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) officially launched his 2024 presidential campaign on Monday . Scott
joins former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley, former Arkansas
governor Asa Hutchinson, conservative radio host Larry Elder,
entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and former President Donald Trump in the
pool of announced Republican candidates. - Scott has already received endorsements from Mike Rounds and Jon Thune, the two Senators from South Dakota.
- Thune is the second-ranking Republican in the Senate after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
- Scott
had nearly $22M in his campaign's war chest at the end of March, and
his presidential campaign has already spent $6M on TV and radio ad spots
in Iowa and New Hampshire.
- The ads will begin airing on Wednesday as Scott travels to the two early-voting states on a campaign trip.
- Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison is expected to spend millions to back Scott's presidential run.
- Ellison donated $30M to the pro-Scott Opportunity Matters Fund super PAC before the 2022 midterm elections.
- The
first GOP primary debate is set to take place in August. Florida
Governor Ron DeSantis is expected to announce his candidacy for the
presidency later this week.
