The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) aims to boost vehicle safety by changing radar regulations.  The agency voted on Thursday to increase the use of higher-powered short-range radar to gather information from cars and drones. The FCC decision is intended to support several technologies that increase vehicle safety. Sensor systems that detect people in the back seat of cars are among the technologies the legislation supports. The sensors form part of an effort among U.S. automakers to reduce deaths caused by children being left in hot cars.  The high-powered radar operations authorized by the FCC will also support systems that issue warnings when vehicles depart from their lanes.
