The U.S. Justice Department has accused a former Apple engineer of stealing the company's self-driving car technology.

 

The U.S. Justice Department has accused a former Apple engineer of stealing the company's self-driving car technology.  The engineer, Weibao Wang, allegedly stole Apple's autonomous tech and shared it with a Chinese self-driving car company. Wang, who had access to restricted Apple databases, allegedly stole sensitive technology and source code from the company to share with a Chinese self-driving startup owned by Baidu. Wang took a job offer from the Chinese company in 2017 while he was still a software engineer at Apple. In June 2018, law enforcement searched Wang's home in California and found the stolen data, but he managed to escape the country. Now in China, Wang faces six charges related to stealing Apple's autonomy source code, tracking systems, behavior planning for autonomous systems, and hardware descriptions. If extradited and convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison per count.
