The Evening Standard, one of the largest newspapers in the U.K., has released a series of NFTs to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III in collaboration with artist Trevor
Jones.
The series was made available to mint for free on the Nifty Gateway NFT marketplace from May 4 to 7.
The NFT includes an animated copy of Trevor Jones' painting "The Oath."
The painting depicts St. Edward's 2.2-kilogram solid gold crown used in every coronation since King Charles II in 1661.
Users could mint and receive the item only by providing an email address and registering for a Nifty Gateway account.
The newspaper put no limits on the number of NFTs that could be minted since the collection is an open edition, though the users had to mint the token between the specified days.
Between May 4 and May 7, users minted 20,200 copies of the NFT in total, and the token currently has a floor price of $9.09.
The Oath will be followed by a 444-piece limited edition NFT collection, The Crown, on May 14, and the holders of The Oath tokens will be able to participate in a drawing to grab one NFT
from The Crown collection per piece.
The series' holders will also have a chance to win a 60x60 cm physical print of The Oath painting signed by Trevor Jones.
The Evening Standard is the fourth largest daily newspaper in the U.K. by circulation after The Metro, The Sun, and The Daily Mail.
