U.S. presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (RFK Jr.)

U.S. presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (RFK Jr.) announced that he would accept campaign donations in Bitcoin (BTC) during his appearance at the Bitcoin 2023 conference in Miami.

The move marked the first political campaign in U.S. history to accept Bitcoin donations.

  • During the event, RFK Jr. also praised Bitcoin as an exercise in democracy and freedom.
  • The crypto-friendly Democratic candidate previously criticized U.S. President Joe Biden's administration for its practices that hobble the crypto industry and drive innovation elsewhere with a strict regulatory approach.
  • Nearly two days after RFK Jr.'s announcement, Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy also said he would accept campaign donations in Bitcoin, becoming the second candidate to do that in U.S. history.
  • Ramaswamy directed his supporters to a QR code that offers users a payment gateway with various payment options, including BTC and satoshi, or 1/100,000,000 of a full BTC, when scanned.
  • The Republican candidate will utilize BitPay's payment service to receive Bitcoin donations.
  • Those donating Bitcoin to Ramaswamy's election campaign will be awarded an NFT.
  • RFK Jr. is the nephew of the 35th President of the U.S., John F. Kennedy.
  • The famous politician mainly challenges President Biden in the 2024 elections.
