Analysis: AI threatens more women's jobs

The news: A new analysis of Goldman Sachs' research indicates that nearly 80% of women in the U.S. workforce, compared to nearly 60% of men, are in jobs highly exposed to automation through generative AI.

Details: The Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise's analysis revealed a 21% higher risk of AI automation exposure for women. "Highly exposed" refers to occupations where over 25% of the tasks could be automated. Goldman Sachs' report on "The Potentially Large Effects of Artificial Intelligence on Economic Growth" served as the basis for the finding.

The takeaway: Some of the most AI-exposed fields with predominantly female workers include office and administrative support, healthcare, education, and social services. White-collar jobs face a greater threat from AI than blue-collar jobs. The Kenan Insitute says greater exposure of women to AI automation is due to a higher representation of women in white-collar jobs (~70%), whereas men have a more balanced ratio of roughly 50-50 between white-collar and blue-collar jobs.
