CNN's new CEO search

According to Variety, Warner Bros. Discovery will not rush the search for a new CNN CEO, but plans to conduct the hiring process "deliberately."

WBD executives have apparently cautioned outside stakeholders that it could be several months before a new CEO is installed at the news network.

Former CNN CEO Chris Licht exited the role recently after less than a year on the job; the former "Late Show with Stephen Colbert" showrunner oversaw a number of failed initiatives, lost the confidence of long-time CNN stalwarts like Erin Burnett and Anderson Cooper, and participated in an Atlantic piece that was widely seen as damaging.

  • CNN faces a number of challenges, including a ratings plunge, a controversial shift in editorial voice and coverage, and the rapid shutdown of its nascent streaming service, CNN+.
  • David Leavy, a long-time lieutenant for WBD CEO David Zaslav, is currently overseeing CNN along with some network veterans, including Amy Entelis, Virginia Moseley, and Eric Sherling.
