Paul McCartney said music producers used AI to help create what he calls "the final" Beatles song.

AI was used to isolate and extract John Lennon's voice from an old demo and complete a song that had been unfinished for decades, according to McCartney.

During an interview with BBC Radio 4, McCartney confirmed that the song would be released later this year.

  • Lennon's vocals from a low-quality cassette recording form the basis of the track, which reports speculate could be "Now and Then," an unfinished song recorded by Lennon before his death in 1980.
  • The idea to use AI for reconstruction came from Peter Jackson's documentary "Get Back," where AI was used to separate the Beatles' voices from background noise.
  • The AI technology allowed McCartney to "duet" with Lennon during his recent tour and for new mixes of the Beatles' album "Revolver."
