the son of legendary Marvel Comics writer

Neal Kirby -- the son of legendary Marvel Comics writer, artist, and editor Jack Kirby -- posted a pointed response to Disney+'s new documentary about Stan Lee.

Kirby accuses Lee of taking sole credit for the collaborative work that he did along with numerous other artists and writers and Marvel Comics, and suggests that Disney and Marvel Studios have contributed to this misattribution.

In addition to his father's contributions, Kirby also points out the work done by Steve Ditko in developing the character of Spider-Man.

  • Kirby also points out the distinction between conceiving of a character and then doing the difficult, creative work of bringing them to life; Lee may have had the idea for Spider-Man, Kirby argues, but it was Steve Ditko's "genius... vision [and] creativity" that made the character an icon.
  • Lee made cameo appearances in dozens of Marvel Studios films and is often referred to as "the creator of all things Marvel."
  • Kirby posted the message via his daughter Jillian's Twitter account.
  • "Stan Lee" is now streaming on Disney+.
