TRAGSATEC, a state-owned tech company in Spain

TRAGSATEC, a state-owned tech company in Spain, has partnered with Hexagon to develop the country's first digital twin for environmental protection efforts in the Campo de Cartagena region.

The virtual model will assist decision-makers in addressing pressing environmental issues.

Spain's environmental challenges, including droughts, extreme weather, and desertification, have led to significant declines in productivity and economic losses for industries such as olive oil and vineyards.

  • The Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) will utilize digital simulations to detect changes in water and vegetation, aiding climate change mitigation, disaster management, and pollution control.
  • Built on Hexagon's Luciad platform, the Digital Twin is expected to be completed by the end of 2023, incorporating vast datasets related to the region and the Menor Sea area for visualization and analysis.
  • The successful implementation of the Digital Twin in the Menor Sea area can serve as a model for other regions in Spain and beyond, addressing the global threat of climate change and ecological degradation.

Spanish TSO Red Eléctrica's (Redeia) subsidiary Elewit recently announced its ASUMO project, which aims to enhance data collection across electrical substations through the use of AI and digital twin technologies.
