Google has updated its privacy policy, clarifying that its AI services like Bard and Cloud AI may be trained on publicly available information scraped from the web.

This means that any online comments or statements, even those unrelated to Google services, can potentially be used to train AI chatbots and more.

A Google spokesperson, Christa Muldoon, said that Google's privacy policy has always been transparent about using publicly available information from the internet to train language models like Google Translate.

  • The recent update clarifies that newer services like Bard, its AI chatbot, are also included in the policy.
  • This follows a class-action lawsuit against OpenAI for allegedly scraping private information without consent to train its AI chatbot.
  • Twitter and Reddit have announced API pricing changes to limit data harvesting, but these changes have faced backlash from their respective communities
