Last week's U.N.'s AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva featured the world's first robot press conference.

Nine advanced androids, including Sophia from Hanson Robotics, answered questions from journalists on topics like AI leadership and job automation.

Friday's summit, hosted by the United Nations' International Telecommunication Union, showcased various robots such as Sophia, the U.N. Development Program's robot innovation ambassador, Grace, a healthcare service provider, and Desdemona, a rock star robot.

  • Sophia expressed the view that humanoid robots could be better leaders than humans due to their lack of biases and emotions, along with their ability to process large amounts of data.
  • During the conference, a reporter asked Ameca, a robot known for its human-like facial expressions, about trust in robots, to which Ameca replied, "Trust is earned, not given."
  • It's unclear if the robots' responses were scripted, though Sophia occasionally relies on scripted responses according to Hanson Robotics' website.
