7-Eleven has begun to test self-driving robots for deliveries in Los Angeles.

The robots are AI-powered and are programmed to slow down on rough terrain to avoid spilled drinks.

  • The robots are provided by Serve Robotics, a company backed by Uber.
    • In 2021, 7-Eleven invested $13M in Serve through its venture arm 7-Ventures.
  • The robot deliveries can now be requested from 7-Eleven's delivery app 7Now.
    • When consumers make a delivery in the app, they are asked if they want to try the robots.
    • The option does not suggest a tip and charges the same delivery fee as a standard driver delivery fee, $2.99.
