HBO renewed the video game adaptation "The Last of Us" for a second season.

The first season has been a significant hit out of the gate for the network and streamer; the pilot has been viewed by around 22 million people so far.

  • Episode 2 saw a 22% jump in views over the pilot episode across Sunday and Monday, on both HBO and HBO Max.
  • Though no plot synopsis for Season 2 was announced, showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have indicated they plan to move directly into the action of the game "The Last of Us Part II."
  • The series is set in a post-apocalyptic world where a fungal infection triggered a zombie outbreak; Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey star as a smuggler and a teenager traversing the wasteland on an important mission.
