Microsoft is reportedly working on a new Azure service known as Project Oakes.
The new service will provide Azure customers with data clean rooms for enhanced compliance and data insights.
- A data clean room
is a technology service that provides aggregated and anonymized user
information to protect user privacy. It is mainly used to share non-PII
with advertisers.
- The
data clean room concept was designed to enable organizations to adhere
to data privacy regulations containing strict rules pertaining to what
kinds of data can be shared, how information is to be shared, and how
data should be collected.
- Microsoft's
new service will allow two or more businesses to pool their data, apply
ML models to the data, and retrieve results without having visibility
into the other parties' data.
- Major
tech titans, including Amazon, Google, and Facebook, have already
launched data clean rooms. In Nov. 2022, Amazon Web Services debuted 'Bastion,' a data clean room cloud service to help companies target ads without violating data privacy laws.
