The
Chinese social media giant recently held a briefing in Washington D.C.
to discuss Project Texas, a plan to address the three specific risks
outlined by the U.S. government.
- TikTok
created Project Texas to avoid getting banned in the U.S. The plan
presents an agreement that addresses concerns regarding unauthorized
access to data, China’s potential influence over TikTok’s content, and
the use of untrustworthy software and systems.
- TikTok has opted to use Oracle Cloud to host its platform, which includes its algorithm and content moderation functions.
- Additionally, the social media company established TikTok U.S. Security Inc.,
a division created to strengthen data protection policies and protocols
and “build confidence in (our) systems and controls in the U.S.”
- Oracle
will also generate a security review process to analyze TikTok’s
software. This will be conducted with a third-party inspector approved
by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS). The
U.S. government will have the final say on whether TikTok is adhering
to compliance requirements.
