Todd Weatherby, the former head of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) ProServe unit, is stepping down from the company after being accused of gender discrimination.

This is connected to a federal lawsuit filed by former employee Cindy Warner against Amazon over gender discrimination and retaliation in AWS's ProServe unit.

  • Former ProServe leader Cindy Warner filed the lawsuit against Amazon in May 2021 through the U.S. District Court in the Central District of California. Warner alleges that she was terminated for addressing widespread gender discrimination at the company.
  • Amazon launched an investigation after more than 550 employees in the AWS ProServe Unit signed a petition in July 2021, claiming the company has "an underlying culture of systemic discrimination, harassment, bullying, and bias against women and under-represented groups."
  • Despite these lengthy allegations, AWS claims it failed to "find evidence of systemwide, discriminatory practices."
  • Amazon Cloud executive Matt Garman praised Todd for being a key player in the AWS ProServe business' growth and development and did not refer to any of the aforementioned issues.
