In 2022, 107 new early-stage startups cemented their status as unicorns, exceeding valuations of over $1B.
The slowdown in venture funding deployment caused the percentage of newly minted unicorns to drop by 28% compared to 2021. Despite the drop, the numbers remained higher than in any year barring 2021.
- In total, 300 unicorns were minted across all stages last year, of which 22 were added in Q4 2022.
- 77 of the total unicorns minted were post-early-stage companies.
- Notable startups that reached unicorn valuations in the second half of 2022 were Web3 infrastructure firm Aptos Lab, which hit a $4B valuation; blockchain developer Mysten Labs, which reached a $2B valuation at its $300M Series B round; and AI startup Jasper, which raised $125M Series A at a $1.5B valuation.
