According to a new study, a plant-based diet could boost prostate cancer survival.
The risk could drop by as much as 52%.
- The
study suggests that men who ate a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and
whole grains had a 52% lower risk of having their cancer progress
further and a 53% lower risk of recurrence compared with men who did not
have the same diet.
- This effect may be caused because fruits
and vegetables contain antioxidants and anti-inflammatory components and
reduce exposure to hormones and heterocyclic amines created during
high-temperature cooking.
- Milk and dairy are also considered as
two factors that may increase the growth factor IGF1, which is
associated with prostate cancer risk.
- The study was conducted with over 2,000 men.
