Akamai debuts Connected Cloud

Massachusetts-based content delivery network (CDN) provider Akamai recently debuted Akamai Connected Cloud, a massively distributed edge and cloud platform for cloud computing, security, and content delivery.

This new product release follows Akamai’s $900M acquisition of cloud-hosting provider Linode.

  • Akamai shared in 2022 that it was buying Linode to “become the world’s most distributed compute program, from cloud to edge.” Exactly one year later, that plan came to fruition with the release of Akamai Connected Cloud.
  • According to a Feb. 14 press release, Akamai Connected Cloud leverages Linode’s existing 11 core cloud computing sites and Akamai’s network of over 4,200 edge locations spanning 134 countries.
  • The new global platform offers content delivery, security, and cloud computing services aimed at areas with large populations, industries, and IT centers.
  • The CDN provider has also announced plans to launch three new enterprise-scale core cloud computing sites in the U.S. and Europe and introduce distributed sites to bring basic cloud computing capabilities to more than 50 cities.
