Amazon Web Services (AWS) on Feb. 13 announced the availability of its Modular Data Center (MDC) to the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).
This service is offered under the Pentagon’s $9B Joint Warfighting Capability Contract (JWCC) that was awarded to Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Oracle.
- AWS says its Modular Data Center facilitates the deployment of modular data centers managed by AWS in locations with limited infrastructure.
- According to the company website, AWS MDC enables DoD agencies to run low-latency applications during high-risk scenarios that pose a threat to infrastructure, such as large-scale military operations, crisis response, and security cooperation.
- The AWS MDC provides users with access to a range of AWS services, APIs, and tools in edge locations.
- The service is exclusively available for purchase to DoD agencies operating under the JWCC contract.
