Amazon has begun to sell its first line of leafy green lettuces grown with 92% less water and 55% less fertilizer than conventional produce.

The produce was harvested by Hippo Harvest, a company funded by Amazon's Climate Pledge Fund.

  • The fund aims to support Amazon and other companies to become net-zero carbon by 2040.
    • Through the fund, Amazon provided $2B in funding to companies whose products promote the transition to a zero-carbon economy.
  • Hippo Harvest received capital from Amazon in 2021.
    • The former uses machine learning to calculate an efficient amount of water, fertilizer, and light to produce high-yield crops.
