Android 14 developer preview and Visual Studio Code v1.75 released

Android released the first developer preview of Android 14 with performance, privacy, security, and user customization enhancements.

Android 14 is expected to be launched in Q3 of this year.

  • Android has created window size classes, sliding pane layout, activity embedding, and box with constraints to enable developers to build apps that adapt to different screen sizes.
  • Android APIs, Foreground Services and JobScheduler, get new functionalities for user-initiated data transfers and an updated requirement to declare foreground service types.
  • Optimizations to the internal broadcast system are aimed at improving battery life and responsiveness.
  • Enhanced accessibility and internationalization features include bigger fonts with non-linear scaling, per-app language preferences, and Grammatical Inflection API.
