App to improve Black mental health care access

Ryan Mundy, a Former NFL player and Super Bowl champion, has founded Alkeme, an app focusing on the mental health and well-being of Black people and families.

The app offers mental health video courses led by Black experts and therapists who discuss complex topics affecting the Black community.

    • Alkeme platform also offers guided meditation and mindfulness practices for Black and African American users.
    • Mundy, a former Chicago Bear, revealed that it was "incredibly difficult" when he tried to find a therapist.
    • Apple is featuring Akeme as one of the Apps of the Day for Black History Month.
    • Mundy launched the Alkeme app during the pandemic in 2020 after learning that not many people are "principally focused on health and wellness and the trajectory of Black health."

    • This year's theme for Black History Month is African American health and wellness, according to The Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH).
