United Health awards $3.2M grant to ECU

 







The United Health Foundation, the philanthropic foundation of UnitedHealth Group, is partnering up with East Carolina University (ECU) Center for Telepsychiatry, awarding the center with a $3.2M grant. 

The three-year partnership will expand the North Carolina Statewide Telepsychiatry Program (NC-STeP) to assist young people's mental health and well-being.


  • The partnership aims to develop an AI-driven portal to encourage engagement in child health care. 
  • A new VR video game with anonymous peer-to-peer support will be developed to educate about mental health and well-being as part of the partnership. 
  • According to AmericAmerica'sh Rankings 2022youth mental health challenges are rising, and 92% of NC's cNC'sies are short on mental health professionals. 
  • ECU students are involved in the project to prepare them to tackle the mental health professionals shortage.
