Apple circling Pac-12

According to a report in The New York Post, it's increasingly likely that Pac-12 football streaming rights will go to Apple TV+.

Apparently, most of the other potential bidders -- including ESPN, Amazon Prime Video, and Fox Sports -- expressed only lukewarm interest in the Pac-12 rights.

  • It's likely that Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff will soon present Apple as a potential partner to school administrators, and begin negotiating the terms of the deal.
  • Pac-12 rights going to Apple could mean an all-streaming deal that would keep the games off of linear broadcast TV.
  • The Big 12 conference recently signed extensions with ESPN and Fox; ESPN also holds the rights for the SEC and the ACC, while Fox will air Big Ten games.
  • The Pac-12 is now down to just 10 teams, after losing USC and UCLA to the Big Ten conference; it no longer has any teams playing the lucrative Los Angeles TV market.
