HBO and HBO Max content chief Casey Bloys sat down with Variety to talk about the upcoming merger with Discovery, the runaway success of "The Last of Us" and more.

Bloys confirms that a new season of "House of the Dragon" will arrive sometime in 2024, likely over the summer.

Bloys said he had never played "The Last of Us" video games before greenlighting the show, but put his faith in co-creator and "Chernobyl" vet Craig Mazin.

  • Though revivals of both "Six Feet Under" and "True Blood" have been rumored for years, Bloys suggests that neither project is currently in active development.
  • A TV adaptation of Bong Joon-ho's Oscar-winning film "Parasite" remains in development but there's no recent news to report.
  • Bloys first impressed upper management at HBO by championing a string of comedy series that became unlikely hits for the network, including "Eastbound and Down," "Flight of the Conchords," "Girls," "Silicon Valley," and "Veep."
